Paul Davis (Ross)
NRDC recently launched an initiative to foster sustainability throughout the produce industry. Paul helped the initiative develop outcomes-based metrics for measuring environmental performance from farm to fork. At the beginning of the summer, Paul (far R) joined NRDC colleagues on a farm field trip in California’s Sacramento Valley. (Summer 2009)
During the summer James joined a team that rode bikes 350 miles down the California coast in the name of climate change awareness.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a nonprofit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.2 million members. NRDC helped found the Stewardship Index for Specialty Crops as part of an effort to foster sustainability throughout the produce industry. In 2009, the Stewardship Index identified a suite of metrics for measuring sustainable performance at the enterprise level, i.e., for an individual farm or facility. This year, James helped NRDC evaluate strategies for accommodating region-specific resource concerns, such as water scarcity, in order to improve the usefulness of the metrics and reduce measuring effort.
