The Monterey Bay Aquarium is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of the oceans, bringing people face-to-face with living marine animals as a powerful way to move them to care about the oceans and ocean life. This world class aquarium is also home to the Center for the Future of the Oceans, SeafoodWATCH, The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, as well as other collaborations and partnerships that seek to find innovative ways to protect and restore the world's oceans. Jos Hill (Presidio)
Monterey Bay Aquarium
The Monterey Bay Aquarium created the Center for the Future of the Oceans (CFFO) to inspire action for conservation of the oceans. One of the CFFO's key goals is to work with the public, restaurateurs, retailers and the seafood industry to transform the seafood market so that it favors sustainable fisheries. Jos developed and conducted a survey to assess business motivations and influencing factors behind engagement in sustainable seafood initiatives and related NGO-business partnerships. The information gathered will be used by CFFO management and the Seafood Watch team on the design, marketing and structuring of new service programs for major buyers of seafood products. Carly Smolak (Presidio)
Monterey Bay Aquarium
The Monterey Bay Aquarium's Sustainable Seafood Initiative is helping to create a marketplace for sustainable seafood through work with consumers, suppliers and major buyers of seafood products. Carly, shown here just outside the Aquarium's offices, carried out an in-depth study of the seafood procurement structures and relationships of major seafood buyers. Her work fed into the Sustainable Seafood Initiative program strategy and helped inform the broader marine conservation community so that they could work more effectively within the business structures of their corporate partners.
